Tousheng。

Right now, about four babies are born every second. Next, it's your turn to become one of them. Where you're born, your family, your sex — all decided by the world, just as it once was for you. Then you live that person's whole life in a few minutes.

One in 8 billion: where might you be born?

Begin a life and move through its choices. Change the speed with the game controls, let automatic choices take over or pause to read an event in full.

The idea behind 1in8b, or one in 8 billion, is to look at a single life among many. In Tousheng, a life simulation game, you begin with a random birthplace, follow a character through the years and respond to the choices that arise.

Set the pace, then stop when you need to

The speed controls offer 1×, 2×, 4× and 8×. Next event advances quickly to an event, then restores ordinary playback; Pause stops it for reading. Manual decisions wait for your answer. Auto randomly chooses an available answer and can resolve a waiting decision as soon as it is enabled. It does not cancel a pause you chose yourself.

Save before leaving an unfinished life

Mark favourite events with a star. In the character profile, Save & return to the start takes you back to the opening screen. Continue this life loads the saved story paused. If you choose a new life instead, confirm that it will replace the unfinished one. Completed-life counts and achievements remain in the Book of Lives; saves belong to this browser and domain.

Birthplaces are weighted by annual births

Tousheng draws from a dataset covering 172 countries. Each country's annual number of births supplies its weight in the draw. Countries therefore do not have equal 1-in-172 chances: a country with more births in the dataset is more likely to appear. These are the simulation's probabilities, rather than a calculation of your personal chance of being born somewhere.

Choose your own pace

Read the birth certificate, then choose a focus as life moves forward. You can answer event choices yourself or enable automatic choices. Adjust the speed, pause to catch up with the timeline and star favourite moments. The character profile adds context, and the life summary gathers the outcome when the story ends.

Read the story alongside the numbers

Country statistics provide a background for the simulation; decisions and random events affect what happens within it. National averages cannot account for every individual. A simulated lifespan or cause of death is a game result, not a forecast of your health, income or future.

Before you begin

Is this the official 1in8b.life site?

No. Tousheng is an independent life simulation game, not the official 1in8b.life website. It does not claim an affiliation.

Do I need to register or pay?

No. You can play in the browser for free without creating an account.

Can I return to an unfinished life?

Yes, when browser storage is available. Saves belong to this browser and website; other domains or devices have separate progress, and clearing site data can remove saves.

What changes when I switch language?

The game supports 14 language options. Life history and cause of death translate too, and the current life continues rather than restarting.
